A:

Direct Impingement (DI): Found in Daniel Defense and Springfield rifles. It is lighter, has fewer parts, and is generally more accurate.
Piston Driven: Found in HK and Sig Sauer MCX models. Piston guns run cleaner and cooler because hot gas is not blown back into the action. They are preferred for running suppressors or for short-barreled configurations.
