FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the difference between “Gas” and “Inertia” shotguns? A:
-
Inertia (Benelli, Franchi, Stoeger): Uses the recoil energy to cycle the action. These guns run cleaner (less carbon buildup) and are lighter to carry, making them ideal for harsh waterfowl environments.
-
Gas (Beretta, Browning, Winchester): Uses expanding gas from the fired shell to cycle the bolt. This significantly reduces felt recoil, making them a better choice for high-volume shooting or hunters sensitive to kick.
Q: Do I need a 3.5-inch chamber for Illinois waterfowl? A: While not strictly required, a 3.5-inch chamber (found on the Benelli SBE3 and Browning Maxus II) allows you to shoot the heaviest steel and tungsten loads for late-season Canada Geese. It gives you maximum versatility to hunt everything from teal to turkey with one gun.
Q: Are these shotguns safe for steel shot? A: Yes. All modern waterfowl shotguns we sell (Benelli, Beretta, Browning, etc.) are proofed for steel and non-toxic shot, which is required for hunting waterfowl in Illinois and on federal land.
